Illustrating the apparent juxtaposition of wild life in modern day society this mighty polar bear looks powerful yet relaxed even in its unusual urban surroundings. Although it portrays a rather poignant message the painting still has humour and is littered with ‘tongue in cheek’ comments. The original painting is still one of the largest canvases that Paul has ever painted at 5 feet x 7 feet and it took him the best part of a year to complete.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the interesting elements. In the top right hand corner you’ll find a disused ‘Cool it’ air conditioning unit. On the window sill you will see there is a ‘Polar’ make of CD player stood alongside a broken bottle of ‘Ice Breaker’. You will find a discarded box from ‘Eskimo House Pizza Parlour’ and a bottle of ‘Bearoni beer, ’amidst the scattered detritus.
Then under the ‘Unnatural Geographic’ magazine there’s a discarded list from ‘Ice Cap Productions’ with a whole host of interesting artists including ‘Cold Play’, ‘Snow Patrol’, ‘Arctic Monkeys’ and ‘Cold Weather Report’ amongst others. Can you also spot the ‘cucumber’? (As in ‘cool as a cucumber’)
The detail in the bears fur is absolutely phenomenal. This is an altogether awesome image which will be a real statement piece to grace any wall.
